MATERIAL:
3 (3-3) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle brown (4 oz. skein)
2 (2-3) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle white (4 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 9 and No. 10 or any size needles which will give stitch gauge given below
5 (5-6) buttons
2  stitch holders

GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:
1st row (wrong side) brown: P across row.
2nd row white: * slip 1 as if to P (yarn in back), y.o., slip 1 as if to P (yarn in back), K1, pass the first slipped st. over the next 3 sts. repeat from * across row.
3rd row white: P across row.
4th row brown: K1, * slip 1 as if to P (yarn in back), y.o., slip 1 as if to P (yarn in back), K1, pass the first slipped st. over the next 3 sts. repeat from * across row, end K2.
Repeat these 4 rows for patterns.

BACK:
   With brown and No. 9 needles cast on 96 (102-108) sts. and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 7 rows. Change to No. 10 needles and pattern. With 96 (102-108) sts. work even until entire piece measures 15 (15-15½) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 sts., at the beg. of next 4 rows 2 sts. (all sizes). With 78 (84-90) sts. work even for 7½ (8-8½) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoul­ders at the beg. of the next 6 rows 8 (9-10) sts., rem. 30 sts. (all sizes) bind off for neck.

LEFT FRONT:
   With brown and No. 9 needles cast on 53 (56-59) sts. and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 7 rows, keeping the 5 cen­ter sts. in seed st. for front border. On next row slip first 5 sts. to a stitch holder to be worked later for front band, change to No. 10 needles and pattern. With rem. 48 (51-54) sts. work even until entire piece measures like back to underarm. Bind off at armhole edge at the beg. of the next row 5 sts. and at the beg. of next 2 rows at same edge 2 sts. At the same time decr. 1 st. at neck edge every 3rd row until 24 (27-30) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 8 (9-10) sts. 3 times. Slip the 5 border sts. from holder back to No. 9 needles and work with brown in seed st. until border measures as long as front to shoulder, then work 2¼ (2½-2½) inch. more. Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT:
   Work as Left Front reversing all shapings and work in 5 (5-6) buttonholes evenly spaced apart in front border, placing 1st buttonhole 1 inch from beg. and last one 2 rows below V-neck shaping. (To make a buttonhole: K1, P1, bind off 2 sts., K1. Cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. of previous row.)

FINISHING:
   Sew shoulder seams. Sew front borders to fronts and sew them together in center of back. Sew border to back of neck. Armband: Right side facing you pick up with brown and No. 9 needles 76 (80-84) sts. around the armhole and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 6 rows. Bind off loose­ly K as K and P as P. Work the other armband to cor­respond. Sew buttons in place and block to size.
