Size 5, Size 7 in parenthesis

MATERIAL:
2 balls Sportyarn (2 oz. ball)
1 pair S.P. knitting needles No. 2 (3 mm.) and No. 4 (3½ mm.)

GAUGE: 6½ sts. = 1 inch

BACK: Cast on 76 (80) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2½ (2¾) inch. (For size 7: incr. 4 sts. at even intervals across last row). (For size 5: incr. 1 st. at each end of next row). Change to No. 4 needles and stock. st. With 78 (84) sts., work even until the entire piece measures 9 (10) inch. or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 7 (8) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (60 (64) sts. left.) Work even for 6½ (7) inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 (4) rows 6 (10) sts. On rem. 24 sts., work neckband in K2, P2 on No. 2 needles for 6 rows. Bind off K as K and P as P.

FRONT: Work front the same way as back until armhole is bound off. Divide the sts. in half and slip one side to a holder. On other side decr. 1 st. at center edge every K row until 18 sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off shoulder at armhole edge 6 sts. 3 times. Connect the yarn on other side of V neck and finish to correspond.

FINISHING: Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 needles for neck 72 sts. (80 sts.) and K2, P2 for 6 rounds, decreasing 1 st. every other round before and after the center st. Sew up shoulder seams. Right side facing you, pick up for armhole with No. 2 needles starting at underarm 76 sts. (84 sts.) and K2, P2 for 6 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Work the other armhole to correspond. Sew up side seams and steam lightly.
