REQUIREMENTS:
LIGHT WEIGHT KNITTING WORSTED
SIZES:   38 (40 - 42)
              9 ozs. (10 ozs. - 11 ozs.)
1 pair No. 2 Aluminum knitting needles
1 pair No. 5 Aluminum knitting needles
1 set No. 5 double pointed knitting needles

BACK: With No. 2 needles, cast on 136 (144-152) sts. Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 3 inches.

Change to No. 5 needles and work in stockinette st until piece measures 13 (13½-14) inches. Bind off 7 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Dec. 1 st at beginning and end of every row 4 (5-7) times, then every other row 8 (9-8) times.

Work straight until piece measures 9½ (10-10½) inches straight up from armhole.

Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, 7 (8-8) at beginning of next 8 rows.

Change to No. 2 needles and work in K2, P2 ribbing for 9 rows. Bind off.

FRONT: Work same manner as back until ribbing has been completed.

Next row start cable pattern.

Pattern stitch: Worked on 14 sts as designated.

Rows 1 & 3: P2, K10, P2.

Row 2 & all even rows: K2, P10, K2.

Row 5: P2, sl next 5 sts on double pointed needle and hold in back of work. K next 5 sts. K 5 sts from double pointed needle, P2.

Rows 7, 9, 11 & 13: Repeat Row 1.

Row 14: Repeat Row 2.

Knit across first 30 (34-38) sts, start cable pattern on next 14 sts. Knit 17 sts, work cable pattern on next 14 sts. Knit 17. Work cable on next 14 – Knit 30 (34-38).

Continue in cable pattern until piece measures same as back. Bind off same as back armhole.

When work measures 1 inch above armhole, work across first 68 (70-72) sts.

Join another ball of yarn and working on both sides at once, make opening for neck.

Decrease 1 st at neck edge every 4th row until armhole measures same as back. Bind off in same manner as back.

Sew shoulder seams. Fasten yarn at underarm with No. 2 needles, pick up 180 (188-192) sts around armhole. Work in K2, P2, ribbing for 9 rows. Bind off in ribbing.

NECKBAND: Right side facing, fasten yarn in first st at top of left neck edge.

No. 2 needles pick up 76 (80-84) sts. Place marker on needle for center front. Pick up 76 (80-84) st for other side.

Row 1: P2, K2 to marker, ending K2. Slip marker, K2, P2 across ending P2.

Row 2: K2, P2, to 2 sts before marker, P2 together, slip marker, P2 together, K2, P2, across end K2.

Row 3: P2, K2, to 3 sts before marker, P1, P2 together, slip marker P2 together, P1, K2, P2, end P2.

Row 4: K2, P2, to 2 sts before marker, K2 together, slip marker K2 together, P2, K2, end K2.

Row 5: P2, K2, to 3 sts before marker, K1, K2 together, slip marker, K2 together, K1, P2, K2, across, end P2.

Row 6: Repeat Row 2.

Row 7: Repeat Row 3.

Row 8: Repeat Row 4.

Row 9: Repeat Row 5.

Row 10: Bind off.

Assemble and block.
