These instructions are for size thirty-eight.

Materials:

Columbia Spanish Knitting Worsted, 4 ounce skeins. 5 skeins Navy, 8976.

Needles:

Columbia Celluloid or Boye Non-inflammable Needles, size 2.

Gauge:

7 sts = 1 inch. 9 rows = 1 inch.

Back:

Cast on 140 sts and work even in k 1, p 1 ribbing for 4 inches. Change to stockinette st and work even for 12 inches. To shape armhole, dec 1 st each side every other row 14 times. When work measures 8 inches straight up from the first dec at underarm, bind off 12 sts at the beginning of each of the next 4 rows. Then work the remaining 64 sts in k 1, p 1 ribbing for 1 ½ inches. Bind off.

Front:

Cast on 134 sts and work even in k 1, p 1 ribbing for 4 inches. Change to stockinette st and work even for 12 inches. To shape armhole, dec 1 st each side every other row 11 times. When work measures 4 inches straight up from the first dec at underarm, k 42 sts and place on st pin, bind off next 28 sts and on the remaining 42 sts work left shoulder as follows: At neck edge dec 1 st every other row 18 times. When work measures 8 inches straight up from the first dec at underarm, at armhole edge, bind off 12 sts every other row twice. Work right shoulder to correspond, reversing shaping.

Sleeves:

Cast on 50 sts and work even in k 1, p 1 ribbing for 4 inches. Change to stockinette st and inc as follows: K 5, * inc 1 st in next st, k 2, repeat from * across row, ending inc in next st, k 5. Work ½ inch even, then inc 1 st each side, then inc 1 st each side every ½ inch 17 times more, then inc 1 st each side every inch 6 times more (112 sts). Work even for inches, then dec 1 st each side every row 14 times. Bind off remaining 84 sts.

To Assemble:

Pick up 104 sts around front of neck and work in k 1, p 1 ribbing for 1 ½ inches. Bind off. Sew shoulder seams; sew sleeves in place; sew underarm seams.
