SIZES 8 (10-12).

NOTE—Underline or circle the num­bers applying to the size desired. The first number in each group is for size 8, the second for size 10, the third for size 12.

MATERIALS—SPINNERIN CANDOUR 2 skeins; 1 pair Knitting Nee­dles No. 3; 1 pair Knitting Needles No. 5; 1 steel Crochet Hook No. 1; 4 small pearl buttons.

MEASUREMENTS—Chest 26½ (28-30) inches, bottom to underarm 10 (10½-11) inches.

GAUGE—6 sts. = 1 inch. 9 rows = 1 inch. Accurate gauge is essential.

PATTERN—Multiple of 6 plus 3. Row 1—K1, *P1, K5, repeat from * across row, ending P1, K1. Row 2—*K1, P1, K1, P3, repeat from * across row, ending K1, P1, K1. Row 3—*K1, P1, K1 YO, slip 1, K2 tog., P.S.S.O. the K2 tog., YO, repeat from * across row, ending K1, P1, K1. Row 4—Repeat Row 2. Repeat these 4 rows throughout for pattern.

BACK—Using No. 3 needles, cast on 76 (80-84) sts. Work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 2 inches. On last row of ribbing work as follows: dec. 1 st. (inc. 1 st.—inc. 3 sts.), (75 (81-87) sts.). Work in pat­tern given above until back measures 10 (10½-11) inches from start or desired length to underarm. At the beg. of each of the next 2 rows, bind off 4 sts. Dec. 1 st. each end of needle every other row 2 (3-4) times, (63 (67-71) sts.). Work even until armhole measures 5½ (5¾-6) inches straight up from underarm. At the beg. of each of the next 6 (6-4) rows, bind off 6 sts. For Size 12 only: Then at the beg. of the next 2 rows, bind off 7 sts. Bind off remaining 27 (31-33) sts. for back of neck.

FRONT—Work in same manner as back until armhole measures 1 inch above underarm, ending with Row 1 of pattern. Work center 9 sts. in seed st. (K1, P1 if row ends with K, start next row with K; if row ends with P, start next row with P) for 3 rows. Work in pattern over first 30 (32-34) sts., P2 tog. Place remaining 31 (33-35) sts. on holder for right front. On sts. of left front, work even in pattern, keeping 7 (4-7) sts. at front edge in seed st., for neck opening, until armhole meas­ures 3 (3¼-3½) inches straight up from underarm, ending with Row 3 of pattern. Work 19 (16-19) sts. at front edge in seed st. and remaining sts. in pattern for 6 rows. At neck edge, bind off 13 (15-16) sts. Work even in pattern until armhole measures 5½ (5¾-6) inches straight up from underarm. At beg. of arm edge, bind off 6 sts., 3 (3-2) times. For Size 12 only: At beg. of arm edge, bind off 7 sts. once. Work right front to correspond, re­versing shaping.

SLEEVES—Using No. 5 needles, cast on 45 (51-57) sts. Work in seed st. for 8 rows. Then work in pattern as on back until sleeve measures 3 (3½-4) inches from start or desired length to underarm. At the beg. of each of the next 2 rows, bind off 4 (5-6) sts. Dec. 1 st. at the beg. of every row for 3 (3¾-3½) inches. Bind off all sts.

FINISHING—Sew underarm, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in armholes, matching underarm seams. Work 2 rows of S. C. around neck and front opening, making 4 button loops at even intervals on right front by ch 2 and skip 2. Sew buttons in place.
