MATERIALS—Bear Brand Imported De Luxe Cashmere and Wool, 11 (12-13) skeins.
Bucilla Plastic Knitting Needles, 1 pair each Sizes 1 and 2.
Bucilla Steel Crochet Hook, Size 4.
MEASUREMENTS OF GARMENT—At bustline 32 (34-36) ins. Width of back at underarm 15½ (16½-17½) ins.
Sleeves—width at underarm 11½ (12-12½) ins.
GAUGE: 17 sts = 2 inches; 11 rows = 1 inch
PATTERN—Multiple of 8 plus 7 sts. Make sample on 39 sts. P 1 row, k 1 row for 4 rows.
Row 5—right side—* P 7;—k 1, p 1, k 1—all in next st; repeat from *, end p 7; 47 sts.
Row 6—* K 7, p 3; repeat from *, end k 7.
Row 7—* P 7, k 3; repeat from *, end p 7.
Row 8—* K 7, p 3 tog.; repeat from *, end k 7; 39 sts. P 1 row, k 1 row for 4 rows.
Row 13—P 3; * k 1, p 1, k 1—all in next st, p 7; repeat from *, end last repeat p 3; 49 sts.
Row 14—K 3, * p 3, k 7; repeat from *, end p 3, k 3.
Row 15—P 3, * k 3, p 7; repeat from *, end k 3, p 3.
Row 16—K 3, * p 3 tog., k 7; repeat from *, end p 3 tog., k 3; 39 sts. Repeat these 16 rows for pat.
BACK—With size 1 needles, cast on 98 (106-114) sts. Work k 1, p 1 ribbing for 3½ ins. Inc. row—Continuing ribbing, inc. 21 sts evenly spaced across row; 119 (127-135) sts.
With size 2 needles, work pat., increasing 1 st each side every 1 in. 7 times, with care to carry out pat. on added sts.
Note: Figures given do not include sts increased for pat. Work even until about 8½ ins. above ribbing, end with pat. row 8 or 16; 133 (141-149) sts.
Armholes—Bind off 7 (8-9) sts at beg. of next 2 rows for underarm.
Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 8 (9-10) times; 103 (107- 111) sts. Work even until 24 rows above underarm, end with pat. row 8 or 16.
Back Opening—P 51 (53-56); place on holder for right half of back, bind off next st, finish row. Work pat. even on left half until armhole measures 6½ (6¾-7) ins., straight up from underarm.
Shoulder—Bind off 7 (9-11) sts at beg. of next row worked from armhole edge, working 3 sts off as 1 st when binding off a 3-in-l pat. In same manner, bind off 9 sts at beg. of next 3 rows worked from armhole edge. Bind off remaining 17 sts for back of neck.
Beg. at center back, finish right half to correspond.
FRONT—With size 1 needles, cast on 106 (114-122) sts. Work ribbing and inc. row as for back; 127 (135-143) sts.
With size 2 needles, p 1 row, k 1 row for 4 rows. Beg. with pat. row 13, work pat. shaping underarm edges as for back; 141 (149-157) sts. Work even until same length as back to armholes. Shape armholes as on back. Work even until armhole measures about 5¾ ins., end with pat. row 8 or 16; 111 (115-119) sts.
Neck Shaping—Work 44 (46-48) sts, place on holder for left half of front, bind off 23 sts, finish row. Work right half, decreasing 1 st at neck edge every row 10 times, shaping shoulder as for back when armhole is same length. Beg. at neck edge, finish left half to correspond.
SLEEVES—With size 1 needles, cast on 87 (91-95) sts. P 1 row, k 1 row for 5 rows for hem.
Pattern—With size 2 needles, p 1 row, k 1 row for 4 rows.
Row 5—right side—P 7 (5-7); * k 1, p 1, k 1—all in next st, p 7; repeat from *, end last repeat p 7 (5-7). Continue pat. increasing 1 st each side every ½ in. 6 times. Work even until about 3¾ ins. above hem, end with pat. row 8; 99 (103-107) sts. Bind off 7 (8-9) sts at beg. of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 5 times; every 4th row 8 (9-10) times; every 2nd row 3 times. Bind off 4 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 29 sts.
COLLAR—With size 1 needles, cast on 110 (114-118) sts. Work p 1 row, k 1 row for 1 in. Bind off.
FINISHING—Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm. Turn under and sew sleeve hem. From right side, work 1 row sc around back opening, keeping edges flat. Ch 1, turn, work 2nd row sc, making 4 buttonloops evenly spaced on right edge. Sew on collar to roll over, purled side out. Steam lightly.
