BACK: With No. 2 Needles cast on 88 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 3 in. Change to No. 4 Needles increasing to 92 sts. Work in pattern as follows: Row 1 (right side)K 3, P 2, K 3. * P 1, K 4, P 1, K 3, P 2, K 3, repeat from * across row. Row 2P 3, K 2, P 3, * K 1, P 4, K 1, P 3, K 2, P 3, repeat from * across row. Repeat above 2 rows, working a cable twist over the ribs of K 4, on the 9th and every 8th row thereafter to neck edge. Work even until piece measures 10 in. from lower edge. Bind off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, then 3 sts at beginning of each of next 4 rows for underarm. Work even until piece measures 8 ½ in. from first bound off sts at underarm. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 6 rows. Change to No. 2 Needles increasing to 33 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 8 rows. Bind off.
FRONT: Work same as back until all sts have been bound off at underarm, then work as follows: work over 33 sts. Place on st-holder. On remaining 33 sts, keeping armhole edge even, work 2 rows even, then decrease 1 st at neck edge every 4th row to 18 sts. Work even until piece measures 8 ½ in. from underarm. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 6 sts every other row 3 times. Work other side to correspond.
FRONT NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 69 sts from left shoulder to point of V, 1 st at point of V, and 69 sts from point of V to right shoulder. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, decreasing 1 st at each side of center st at point of V on every row, for 8 rows. Bind off, decreasing as described above.
Sew shoulder seams.
ARMHOLE BANDS: With No. 2 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 136 sts from end to end of armhole. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 8 rows. Bind off. Sew underarm seams.
