REQUIREMENTS:
3-PLY SPORTS YARN
SIZES:   12 (14 - 16)
            12 ozs. (13 ozs. - 14 ozs.)
1 pair No. 2 double pointed knitting needles
1 pair No. 2 Aluminum knitting needles
1 pair No. 3 Aluminum knitting needles

CABLE PATTERN STITCH: To make a cable, slip next 3 sts onto a double pointed needle and place in back of work. Knit next 3 sts, then knit 3 sts from double pointed needle.

BACK: Cast on with No. 2 needles 128 (138-146) sts.

Work in ribbing Knit 1, Purl 1 for 2½ inches.

Purl across increasing 8 sts evenly on the next row.

Change to No. 3 needles.

1st Row: K2 (1-5) sts, P3 (3-3). On size 12 only, K6, P3. On all sizes * K3, P3, K6, P3. Repeat from * 7 (8-8) times more, K2 (3-3) sts; P-0 (3-3) sts, K-0 (1-5) sts.

2nd Row: P2 (1-5) sts, K-0 (3-3) sts, P-0 (3-3) sts * K3, P6, K3, P3. Repeat from * 7 (8-8) times more. K3 sts, P6 (1-5) sts, K3 (0-0) sts. On size 12 only P2.

3rd Row: K2 (1-5) sts, P3 (3-3) sts. On size 12 only make a cable over the next 6 sts, P3. On all sizes * K3, P3, make a cable over the next 6 sts, P3. Repeat from * 7 (8-8) times more. K2 (3-3), P-0 (3-3) sts, K-0 (1-5).

4th Row: Repeat 2nd row.

5th to 10th Rows inclusive: Repeat 1st and 2nd rows alternately. The last 8 rows (3rd to 10th rows inclusive) are the cable pattern. Work in Cable pattern until piece measures in all 13 (13½-14) inches.

TO SHAPE ARMHOLES: Bind off 9 (10-12) sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st at both ends of every other row until there remain 106 (112-116) sts. Work in Cable pattern without decreasing until piece measures from first row of armhole shaping, ending with an even row, 8 (8½-9) inches.

Bind off at the beginning of next 4 rows 11 (12-13) sts. Bind off at beginning of next 2 rows 12 (13-12) sts. Change to No. 2 needles and work in ribbing for the remaining sts for 14 rows. Bind off loosely.

FRONT: Work same as back until piece measures from first row of armhole shaping, 6 (6½-7) inches.

Work in cable pattern across the first 67 (70-72) sts. Place the last 28 (28-28) sts just worked onto a stitch holder to be worked later. Work in Cable pattern across the last 39 (42-44) sts, only decreasing 1 st at neck edge every other row until there remain 34 (37-38) sts. Work without decreasing until piece measures same as back to shoulder. Bind off at beginning of next 2 rows 11 (12-13) sts. Bind off remaining 12 (13-12) sts. Attach yarn to other side of neck and work other side to correspond. Pick up around front of neck including sts from st holder 70 (72-74) sts and work in ribbing for 14 rows.

¾ SLEEVES: Cast on 64 (68-72) sts and work in ribbing for 14 rows. Change to No. 3 needles and work in stockinette st increasing 1 st each side of every 6th row until there are on the needle 88 (92-96) sts. Work until piece measures 11¾ (12-12½) inches. Bind off 9 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st at beginning of every row until 30 sts remain. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining sts.

Block all pieces — assemble.
