Main color4 1-oz. Skeins, Contrasting color1 1-oz. Skein
BACK: With No. 2 Needles and main color cast on 93 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 in. Change to No. 3 Needles and work even in stockinette st until piece measures 9 in. from lower edge. Bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 3 times. Work even until piece measures 1 ½ in. from underarm. Then work striped pattern as follows: * 2 rows contrasting color, 4 rows main color, repeat from * to neck edge. When piece measures 5 in. from underarm, bind off 8 sts at beginning of each of next 6 rows. Change to No. 2 Needles, increasing to 35 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Bind off.
FRONT: Work same as back until piece measures 3 ½ in. from underarm. Continuing pattern, work over 28 sts. Place on st-holder. Bind off next 21 sts for front of neck. On remaining 28 sts, work 2 rows even. Decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 4 times. Work even until piece measures 5 in. from underarm. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 8 sts at beginning of every other row 3 times. Work other side to correspond.
FRONT NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 61 sts from end to end of neckband. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Bind off.
Sew shoulder seams, leaving left shoulder open 2 in. from neck edge.
SLEEVES: With No. 3 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 18 sts across top of shoulder. Work back and forth in stockinette st. picking up 5 sts at end of each row until 78 sts have been picked up from end to end of armhole. Work 10 rows even. Decrease 1 st at each end of next row and every 8th row thereafter to 62 sts. Work even until sleeve measures 12 ½ in. or desired length to cuff. Change to No. 2 Needles decreasing to 52 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 ½ in. Bind off.
Sew underarm and sleeve seams.
Work 1 row s c around shoulder opening, working 3 loops for buttonholes at front edge.
