MATERIALS:
1 Pr. Size 8 Standard Knitting Needles
1½ 4-oz. Skeins 4-ply Knitting Worsted

GAUGE: 5 sts to 1 in.

BACK: Cast on 47 sts, (2 yr. 51 sts—3 yr. 55 sts). K 1 row, P 1 row, for 5 rows. K 1 row on P side for turning ridge. K 1 row, P 1 row (stockinette st) until piece measures 5½ in., (2 yr. 6 in.—3 yr. 7 in.) or desired length to underarm.
Bind off 4 sts at beg. of each of next 2 rows for underarm. Work even in stockinette st for 6 rows, (2 yr. 8 rows—3 yr. 10 rows). Starting on right side, work in pattern as follows:
Row 1—P 1, K 1, over first 3 sts, (2 yr. 5 sts—3 yr. 7 sts); K 3, * P 1, K 1, over next 7 sts, K 3; repeat from * 2 times, ending P 1, K 1, over the 3 remaining sts (2 yr. 5 sts—3 yr. 7 sts).
Row 2—P 1, K 1, over 2 sts, (2 yr. 4 sts—3 yr. 6 sts); P 5, * K 1, P 1, over 5 sts, P 5; repeat from * 2 times, ending K 1, P 1, over remaining sts. Repeat above 2 rows until piece measures 3½ in., (2 yr. 4 in.—3 yr. 4½ in.) or desired length from underarm to shoulder. Bind off 5 sts, (2 yr. 6 sts—3 yr. 7 sts) at beg. of each of next 2 rows for shoulders.
Working in pattern, bind off remaining sts loosely.

FRONT: Work as given for back.
Sew shoulders tog. across bound off sts.

SLEEVES: On right side of garment, pick up 41 sts, (2 yr. 43 sts—3 yr. 45 sts) across armhole edge. Work in stockinette st decreasing 1 st at each end every 6th row, (2 and 3 yr. every 8th row) to 31 sts, (2 yr. 33 sts—3 yr. 35 sts). Work even until sleeve measures 6 in., (2 yr. 7 in.—3 yr. 8 in.) or desired length to cuff. P 1 row decreasing to 25 sts, (2 yr. 27 sts—3 yr. 29 sts).
Work in pattern as follows: Row 1—K 2, (2 yr. K 3—3 yr. K 4); * P 1, K 1, over next 5 sts. K 3; repeat from * ending P 1, K 1, over 5, K 2, (2 yr. K 3—3 yr. K 4). Row 2—P 3, (2 yr. P 4—3 yr. P 5); * K 1, P 1, K 1, P 5; repeat from * 2 times ending K 1, P 1, K 1, P 3, (2 yr. P 4—3 yr. P 5).
Repeat above 2 rows 3 times for cuff. Bind off. Sew sleeve and underarm seams. Trim with buttons as illustrated.
