Size 4 to 5 yr. — Scale: 7 ½ sts to 1 in.

1 Pr. Standard No. 2 Needles—14 in.
1 Pr. Standard No. 3 Needles—14 in.
Gold Medal Fingering Yarn (A Jack Frost Product)—4 1-oz. Skeins

BACK: With No. 2 Needles cast on 86 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 in. Change to No. 3 Needles and work even in stockinette st until piece measures 9 in. from lower edge. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 3 times. Work even until piece measures 2 in. from underarm; then work in garter st until piece measures 4 ¾ in. from underarm. Bind off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 6 rows. Change to No. 2 Needles, decreasing to 31 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Bind off.

FRONT: Work same as back until piece measures 3 ½ in. from underarm, then continuing garter st, work over 27 sts. Place on st-holder. Bind off next 20 sts for front of neck. On remaining 27 sts decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 6 times. Work even until piece measures 4 ¾ in. from underarm. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 7 sts every other row 3 times. Work other side to correspond.

FRONT NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 71 sts from shoulder to shoulder. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Bind off. Sew shoulder seams.

SLEEVES: With No. 3 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 37 sts across top of shoulder. Work back and forth in stockinette st picking up 5 sts at end of each row until 77 sts have been picked up from end to end of armhole. Work in stockinette st decreasing 1 st at each end every 8th row 7 times, then every 6th row to 51 sts. Work even until piece measures 10 ½ in. from underarm. Change to No. 2 Needles decreasing to 47 sts at even intervals across row. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 ½ in. Bind off.

Sew sleeve and underarm seams.
