Jack Frost Fingering Fleece—6 1-oz. Balls

BACK: With No. 2 Needles cast on 100 sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 3½ in. Change to No. 4 Needles and P 1 row increasing to 133 sts at even intervals across row. Work in pattern as follows:
Row 1—P 2, * K 3, P 2, K 2, P 2; repeat from * across row ending K 3, P 2.
Row 2—K 2, * P 3, K 2, P 2, K 2; repeat from * across row ending P 3, K 2. .
Row 3—P 2, * Y O, slip 1 st, K 2 tog., pass the slipped st over the K 2 tog. (P S S O), Y O, P 2, K 2, P 2, K 3, P 2, K 2, P 2; repeat from * ending Y O, slip 1 st, K 2 tog., P S S O, Y O, P 2.
Row 4—Repeat row 2.
Row 5—Repeat row 1.
Row 6—Repeat row 2.
Row 7—P 2, * K 3, P 2, K 2, P 2, Y O, slip 1 st, K 2 tog., P S S O, Y O, P 2, K 2, P 2; repeat from * ending K 3, P 2.
Row 8—Repeat row 2. Repeat above 8 rows until piece measures 12 in. from lower edge. Bind off 8 sts at begin­ning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 8 times. Work even in pattern until piece measures 3 in. from underarm, then work in ribbing (right side) as follows:
Row 1—K 2, * P 2, K 3, P 2, K 2; repeat from * across row.
Row 2—P 2, * K 2, P 3, K 2, P 2; repeat from * across row. Repeat above 2 rows, until piece measures 6½ in. from under­arm. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 10 rows for shoulders. Change to No. 2 Needles, decreasing to 38 sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 8 rows. Bind off.

FRONT: Work same as given for back until piece measures 5 in. from underarm. Work over 38 sts; place on st-holder. Bind off next 25 sts for front of neck. On remaining 38 sts, work 2 rows even; decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 8 times. Work even until piece measures 6½ in. from under­arm. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 6 sts every other row 5 times. Work other side to correspond.

FRONT NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles on right side of garment, pick up 78 sts from shoulder to shoulder. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 8 rows. Bind off. Sew shoulder and underarm seams.

SLEEVES: With No. 2 Needles cast on 84 sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 1½ in. P 1 row increasing to 97 sts. Work in pattern as given for back until piece measures 3 in. from lower edge. Change to No. 4 Needles and continue pattern until piece measures 5 in. from lower edge. Bind off 8 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 8 times, then every 4th row 3 times. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of every row until 18 sts remain. Bind off remaining sts.

Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in place.
