Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 5 (4 mm. size) and 1 pair No. 7 (4½ mm. size).

Measurements: Length from top of shoulder—22½ inches. Length of sleeve at underarm seam—18 inches.

Gauge: 4½ sts make 1 inch; 7 rows make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at bottom, with No. 5 needles cast on 86 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 4 inches. Change to No. 7 needles and work as follows: 1st row: K 3, * p 1, k 1, p 1, k 4. Repeat from * to within last 6 sts, then p 1, k 1, p 1, k 3. 2nd row: P across. Repeat these 2 rows alternately until piece measures 14 inches.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 70 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 8½ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulders, bind off 7 sts at beginning of each row until 28 sts remain. Bind off.

Front. Work exactly as for Back until piece measures 13¼ inches, ending with a p row. Then work as follows: 1st row: K 3, (p 1, k 1, p 1, k 4) 4 times, p 1, k 1, p 2, (k 1, p 1) 8 times, p 1, (p 1, k 1, p 1, k 4) 4 times, p 1, k 1, p 1, k 3. 2nd row: P 34, k 1, (p 1, k 1) 8 times, k 1, p 34. Repeat 1st and 2nd rows 2 more times.

To Shape Armholes: Starting at armhole edge, bind off 4 sts, then p 1, k 4, * p 1, k 1, p 1, k 4. Repeat from * twice, p 1, k 1, p 2 tog., (k 1, p 1) 3 times, k 2, turn (thus starting neck shaping). Next row: (P 1, k 1) 4 times, k 1, p across remaining sts. Work over these last 38 sts decreasing 1 st at armhole edge every other row 4 times, at the same time decreasing 1 st within border at neck edge every 4th row until 29 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 8½ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulder, starting at armhole edge, bind off 7 sts every other row 3 times. Work over remaining 8 sts in moss st for 1¾ inches. Bind off. Attach yarn at center front and work other side to correspond.

Sleeves. Starting at bottom, with No. 5 needles, cast on 44 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 4 inches. Change to No. 7 needles and work in pattern, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 6th row until there are 70 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 18½ inches. To shape top of sleeve, bind off 2 sts at beginning of each row until 20 sts remain. Bind off. Sew up underarm and shoulder seams. Sew up sleeve seams and sew sleeves in.
