MATERIALS— Bear Brand Wonderized Casa-Laine Sport Yarn, 6 (7-7) balls; or
Bear Brand British 3-ply Fingering Yarn, 11 (12-13) balls.
Bucilla Plastic Knitting Needles, 1 pair each Sizes 1 and 3.
Bucilla Plastic Crochet Hook, Size 2.

MEASUREMENTS OF GARMENT—At bustline buttoned 35 (37- 39) ins.
Width of back at underarm 17 (18-19) ins.
Sleeves—width at underarm 12½ (13-13½) ins.

GAUGE: 15 sts = 2 inches; 19 rows = 2 inches

BACK—With size 1 needles, cast on 120 (128-136) sts. Work k 1, p 1 ribbing for 10 rows.
With size 3 needles, working stockinette st—p 1 row, k 1 row—, dec. 1 st each side every 1½ ins. 3 times; 114 (122- 130) sts. Work even until 6 ins. above ribbing. Inc. 1 st each side of next row. Repeat incs. every 1 in. 6 times more; 128 (136-144) sts. Work even until 13½ ins. above ribbing.

Armholes—Bind off 7 (8-9) sts at beg. of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 8 (9-10) times; 98 (102-106) sts. Work even until armholes measure 7¼ (7½-7¾) ins., straight up from underarm.

Shoulders—Bind off 6 (8-10) sts at beg. of next 2 rows; 9 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 32 sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT—With size 1 needles, cast on 70 (74-78) sts.
Row 1—* K 1, p 1; repeat from * to end.
Row 2—P 1, k 1 for 9 sts for seed st front band; work p 1, k 1 ribbing to end. Repeat these 2 rows 4 times. With size 3 needle, k 45 (49-53), p 2, * inc. 1 st in next st, k 1; repeat from * 5 times, p 2, work band in seed st; 76 (80-84) sts. Next row, work 9 seed sts, k 2, p 18, k 2, p to end.

Cable PatternRow 1—right side—K 45 (49-53) sts, * p 2, slip next 6 sts to crochet hook, hold in front of work, k next 6 sts, k 6 sts from hook, k 6, p 2 *, finish row.
Row 2—Work band, k 2, p 18, k 2, p to end.
Row 3—K to first p rib, p 2, k 18, p 2, finish row. Shaping underarm edge as on back, repeat rows 2 and 3, 3 times; then repeat row 2 once more.
Row 11—K to first p rib, p 2, k 6, slip next 6 sts on hook, hold in back of work, k next 6 sts, k 6 sts from hook, p 2, finish row. Repeat rows 2 and 3 for 9 rows. Repeat last 20 rows for pat., shaping underarm edge as on back. There will be 73 (77-81) sts at waistline; 80 (84-88) sts at bustline. Work even until same length as back to armholes, end at underarm edge. Shape armhole as on back; 65 (67-69) sts. Work even until armhole measures about 6 ins., end 1 row above cable twist row.
Next row—right side—K to first p rib, p 2, * k 2 tog., k 1; repeat from * 5 times, p 2, finish row; 59 (61-63) sts.

Neck Shaping—Bind off 20 sts at beg. of next row. Dec. 1 st at neck edge every row 6 times. Shape shoulder as on back when armhole is same length.

Mark position of 7 buttons on front band evenly spaced, having first button 1 in. from lower edge and 7th button the same distance below neck edge as distance between buttons. 8th button will be on neck ribbing.

RIGHT FRONT—With size 1 needles, cast on 70 (74-78) sts.
Row 1—K 1, p 1 to end.
Row 2—K 1, p 1 to within 9 sts of end, k 1, p 1 for 9 sts for seed st band. Repeat these 2 rows 4 times, end at front edge.

Buttonhole—With size 3 needle, work 3 sts, bind off 3 sts for buttonhole, work until 3 sts from bind-off, p 2, * inc. 1 st in next st, k 1; repeat from * 5 times more, td 2, k to end; 76 (80-84) sts. On next row, p 45 (49-53) sts, k 2, p 18, k 2, work band, casting on 3 sts over buttonhole.

Cable Pattern—Row 1—Work front band, repeat between *'s of cable pat. row 1 of left front, k to end. Finish to cor­respond to left front, shaping underarm edge at end of k rows and working buttonholes at front edge opposite markers for buttons. Sew shoulder seams.

NECKBAND—With size 1 needles, from right side, pick up and k 107 (111-115) sts evenly spaced around neck edge. Work p 1, k 1 ribbing for 1 row, end with p 1.
8th Buttonhole—K 1, p 1 for 4 sts, bind off 3 sts for button­hole, finish row. Working ribbing, cast on 3 sts over button­hole on next row. Work 4 more rows of ribbing. Bind off in ribbing.

SLEEVES—With size 1 needles, cast on 54 (56-58) sts. Work k 1, p 1 ribbing for 3 ins. Inc. row—Continuing ribbing, inc. 8 (10-12) sts evenly spaced across row; 62 (66-70) sts. With size 3 needle, k 20 (22-24), p 2, k 18, p 2, finish row. On next row, p 20 (22-24), k 2, p 18, k 2, p to end. Work first cable twist on 18 center sts on next row, same as on fronts. Continue cable pat., increasing 1 st each side every ¾ in. 19 times; 100 (104-108) sts. Work even until 15 ins. above ribbing, end on wrong side. Bind off 7 (8-9) sts at beg. of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 10 (11-12) times; every 4th row 5 times; every 2nd row 3 times. Bind off 3 sts at beg. of next 5 rows. Next row—wrong side— Bind off 3 sts, p to first k rib, k 2, * p 2 tog. p 1; repeat from * 5 times more, k 2, p to end. Bind off remaining 26 sts.

FINISHING—Steam and finish.
