MATERIAL:
3 (4-5) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle white (2 oz. skein)
1 (1-1) skein Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle each red, blue and gold (1 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 4 and No. 6
2 stitch holders
7 (7-7) silver buttons

GAUGE: 11 sts. = 2 inch.

NOTE: Carry yarn not in use loosely on wrong side of work catching it when carried over more than 3 sts.

BACK:
With white and No. 4 needles cast on 60 (62-66) sts. and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch, (all sizes). Incr. 2 (4-6) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 6 needles and stock. st. With 62 (66-72) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 7½ (8½-9½) inch, or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (all sizes), decr. 1 st. at the beg. of the next 2 (2-4) rows (56 (60-64) sts. left). Work even for 1 inch above armhole bind off. Start pattern and follow chart No. 960. Work even for 4¾ (5¼-5¾) in pattern. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 (6-4) rows 8 (6-10) sts., rem. 24 sts. (all sizes) bind off for neck.

LEFT FRONT:
NOTE: For boys work buttonholes in left front border. For girls work buttonholes in right front border.

With white and No. 4 needles cast on 36 (38-40) sts. and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch, (all sizes), keeping the 6 center front sts. in ribbing K1, P1 for buttonhole border throughout the entire front. Incr. 2 (3-3) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 6 needles and stock, st. With 38 (41-43) sts. work even until the entire piece measures like back to underarm. Bind off at armhole edge at the beg. of the next row 2 sts. (all sizes). Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of the next 2 (3-3) rows at same edge (34 (36-38) sts. left). Work even for 1 inch above armhole bind off. Start pattern and follow chart No. 961. Work even for 3¼ (3¾-4) inch, in pattern. Bind off for neck 12 sts. (all sizes) at center edge and then always 2 sts. at neck edge every other row until 16 (18-20) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 8 (6-10) sts. 2 (3-2) times.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work as Left Front reversing all shapings and work in 7 buttonholes evenly spaced apart, placing first button­hole ½ inch from beg. and last one 4 rows below neck­line. (To make a buttonhole: K1, P1, bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. of previous row).

SLEEVE:
With white and No. 4 needles cast on 32 (36-40) sts. and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch, (all sizes). Incr. 4 (2-2) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 6 needles and stock, st. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 6th row until 46 (50-52) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 8½ (9½-10½) inch, or any des. length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (all sizes). Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until cap measures 2¾ (3¼-3¾) inch, and at the same time 1 inch, above armhole bind off start pattern and follow chart No. 962. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row once (all sizes). Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of the next 6 rows. Bind off rem. sts. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING:
Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Neckband: Right side facing you pick up with No. 4 needles 52 (56-60) sts. around the neck and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 5 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Sew buttons in place and block to size.
