MATERIALS—Bear Brand Tricolaine, Cardigan—9 (9-10) skeins.
Skirt—13 (14-15) skeins.
Bucilla Featherlite Aluminum Knitting Needles, 1 pair Size 2.
Bucilla Circular Steel Knitting Needle, Size 2.
Bucilla Steel Crochet Hook, Size 4.

CARDIGAN

MEASUREMENTS OF GARMENT—At bustline buttoned 32 (34-36) ins.
Width of back at underarm 15½ (16½-17½) ins.
Sleeves—Width at underarm 11½ (12-12½) ins.

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch; 12 rows = 1 inch

BACK—Cast on 106 (114-122) sts. Work stockinette st—k 1 row, p 1 row—, decreasing 1 st each side every ½ in. 6 times; 94 (102-110) sts. Work even until 4 ins. from beg. Inc. 1 st each side of next row. Repeat incs. every ½ in. 14 times; 124 (132-140) sts. Work even until 12 ins. from lower edge.

Armholes—Bind off 6 (7-8) sts at beg. of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 8 (9-10) times; 96 (100-104) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7 (7¼- 7½) ins., straight up from underarm.

Shoulders—Bind off 8 (8-9) sts at beg. of next 4 rows; 8 (9-9) sts at beg. of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining 32 sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT—Cast on 68 (72-76) sts. Work stockinette st de­creasing 1 st at front edge at end of every k row 9 times, then work front edge even for 36 rows, at the same time shape underarm edge as for back at beg. of k rows; 55 (59-63) sts.

Scallop—Continue to shape underarm edge as on back, in­creasing 1 st at front edge every k row 9 times for scallop. P 1 row. Dec. 1 st at front edge every k row 9 times. P 1 row. Keeping front edge even and continuing underarm shap­ing, work 36 rows. Repeat scallop, shaping armhole as on back when front is same length as back to armholes.

Neck Shaping—When 2nd scallop is completed, continue to dec. 1 st at front edge every 2nd row 22 times more, at the same time continuing to shape armhole as on back; 32 (34-36) sts. Work even until armhole is same length as on back, end at armhole edge.
Shape shoulder as on back.

RIGHT FRONT—Cast on 50 (54-58) sts. Shaping underarm edge as on back at end of k row, begin front shaping and scallop at once by increasing 1 st at beg. of every k row 18 times. P 1 row. Dec. 1 st at beg. of every k row 9 times. P 1 row. Work 36 rows, keeping front edge even. Work 18 rows, increasing 1 st at beg. of every k row; then work 18 rows decreasing 1 st at beg. of every k row. Work next 36 rows, keeping front edge even, shaping armhole as on back when front is same length as back to armhole. At end of these 36 rows, dec. 1 st at neck edge every 2nd row 22 times. Finish to correspond to left front.

RIGHT SLEEVE—Cast on 39 (41-43) sts for half of sleeve; mark end of k rows for underarm edge. Work stockinette st, keeping beg. of k rows even for center edge, increasing 1 st at underarm edge every 4th row 7 times; 46 (48-50) sts. Work even until 36 rows from beg., end with p row.

Inc. 1 st at beg. of next row for scallop, finish row. Bind off 6 (7-8) sts at beg. of next row, finish row. Continue to shape scallop at center edge, same as on fronts and dec. 1 st at op­posite edge every 2nd row 7 times; every 4th row 5 times; 28 (29-30) sts, end with p row; break off and place on holder. Cast on 39 (41-43) sts for other half of sleeve; mark beg. of k rows for underarm edge. Begin scallop at once at end of k rows, increasing 1 st at underarm edge every 4th row 7 times. Complete scallop, keeping underarm edge even, end with p row; 46 (48-50) sts. Bind off 6 (7-8) sts at beg. of next row. Keeping center edge even, dec. 1 st at opposite edge every 2nd row 7 times; every 4th row 5 times; 28 (29-30) sts, end with p row; do not break off. K next row, then k sts of other half to same needle; 56 (58-60) sts. P 1 row. Dec. 1 st each side of next row. Repeat decs, every 4th row 2 (3-4) times; every 2nd row twice. Bind off 3 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 28 sts.

LEFT SLEEVE—Cast on 39 (41-43) sts for first half of sleeve; mark end of k rows for underarm edge. Begin scallop at once, at beg. of k rows. Work 1 scallop, then 36 rows even at center edge, shaping opposite side to correspond to right sleeve.

Cast on 39 (41-43) sts for 2nd half of sleeve. Work center edge even for 36 rows at end of k rows, shaping underarm edge at beg. of k rows. Finish to correspond to right sleeve.

FINISHING—Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm.

EDGING—From right side, work 1 row sc around lower edge, front and neck edges, increasing in corners to keep work flat. Work 1 row sc around lower and center edges of sleeves. Fasten off.

Row 2—Working from same side as last row, join yarn in 1 st, * ch 3, draw 1 loop through 2nd st from hook, draw 1 loop through 3rd st from hook, yo and through all loops, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts; repeat from * around all edges, increasing at corners to keep edge flat. Fasten off. Steam. Use snap fasteners, having scallops over­lap far enough to avoid gaping. Trim with buttons as il­lustrated. Overlapping scallops on sleeve as on fronts, sew 1 button on point of each scallop, sewing through 2 thicknesses to fasten.
