Size 12 yr. — Scale 7 ½ sts to 1 in.

1 Pr. Standard No. 4 Needles—14 in.
1 Size 3 Steel Crochet Hook
Jack Frost Sport Yarn or Heathertone—6 2-oz. Balls

BACK: Cast on 122 sts. Work in pattern as follows: Row 1—K 2, * P 1, K 2, repeat from * across row. Row 2—K 1, * P 1, K 2, repeat from * across row ending P 1. The above 2 rows form pattern. Repeat them until piece measures 13 in. from lower edge. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 6 times. Work even until piece measures 6 in. from underarm. Bind off 10 sts at beginning of each of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining sts.

RIGHT FRONT: Cast on 68 sts. Work even until piece measures 13 in. from lower edge. Keeping front edge even, bind off 9 sts at underarm edge once; decrease 1 st at underarm edge every other row 6 times. Work even until piece measures 4 ½ in. from bound off sts at underarm. Keeping armhole edge even, bind off 15 sts at neck edge once, then 2 sts every other row 4 times. Work even until piece measures 6 in. from underarm. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 10 sts every other row 3 times. Work other side to correspond.

Sew shoulder and underarm seams.

LARGE POCKETS: Cast on 29 sts. Work in pattern for 4 in. Bind off.

SMALL POCKETS: Cast on 23 sts. Work in pattern for 3 in. Bind off. Work 1 row of s c around each pocket, working 3 s c in each corner st. Sew to cardigan as illustrated.

SLEEVES: Cast on 74 sts. Work even in pattern until piece measures 17 in. from lower edge. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 9 times. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of every row to 20 sts. Bind off. Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in place.

CROCHETED BORDER: Work 2 rows of s c around front opening and neck edge, working 3 s c in corner sts at neck edge; drawing in neck band by skipping every 3rd st on second row.

Work 1 loop for buttonhole at neck edge on right front.
