MATERIALS—Bear Brand Caprice; or
Bear Brand Tricolaine—Jacket—Main Color A, 15 (15-16) skeins.
Contrasting Colors, Dark B, and Light C, 1 skein each.
Skirt—Color A, 14 (15-17) skeins.
Bucilla Circular Steel Knitting Needle, Size 2.
Bucilla Featherlite Aluminum Knitting Needles, 1 pair Size 2.
Bucilla Steel Crochet Hook, Size 4.

MEASUREMENTS OF JACKET—At bustline buttoned 34 (36-38) ins.
Width of back at underarm 16½ (17½-18½) ins.
Sleeves—width at underarm 12 (12½-13) ins.

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch; 12 rows = 1 inch

JACKET

BACK—With A, cast on 128 (136-144) sts. Work stockinette st—k 1 row, p 1 row for 1½ ins. Dec. 1 st each side of next row. Repeat decs, every 1 in. 5 times; 116 (124-132) sts, end with p row.
Dec. row—Dec. 12 sts evenly spaced across row; 104 (112-120) sts.
Work even until 7½ ins. from lower edge, end with p row.
Inc. row—Inc. 12 sts evenly spaced across row; 116 (124-132) sts.
Continue in stockinette st, increasing 1 st each side every ¾ in. 8 times; 132 (140-148) sts. Work even until 15 ins. from lower edge.

Armholes—Bind off 8 (9-10) sts at beg. of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 8 (9-10) times; 100 (104-108) sts. Work even until armholes measure 7¼ (7½-7¾) ins., straight up from underarm.

Shoulders—Bind off 7 (9-11) sts at beg. of next 2 rows; 9 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 32 sts.

LEFT FRONT—With A, cast on 74 (78-82) sts. Work stock­inette st, keeping front edge even and decreasing at under­arm edge as for back, at beg. of k rows until 68 (72-76) sts, end with p row.
Dec. row—K 2 (6-10), k 2 tog.; * k 6, k 2 tog.; repeat from * 4 times, finish row; 62 (66-70) sts. Work even until 7½ ins. from beg., end with p row.
Inc. row—K 2 (6-10), * inc. 1 st in next st, k 6; repeat from * 5 times, finish row; 68 (72-76) sts. Work 5 rows even, end with p row.

Pattern Stripe—With B, k to within 24 sts of front edge; with separate strand of A, finish row. P 1 row with match­ing colors. Using C instead of B, repeat last 2 rows twice. Shaping underarm edge as for back, with A, work 12 rows. Repeat 6 rows of pat. stripe. Continue pat. stripes in this way working 2 more rows of A before each successive pat. stripe until there are 5 pat. stripes, shaping armhole as on back until 1 in. above underarm, end with p row.

Collar Shaping—Work turn-back collar in reversed stockinette st as follows:
Row 1—Continuing to shape armhole as on back, k to within 3 sts of front edge, p 3.
Row 2—K 3, p to end.
Row 3—K to within 4 sts of front edge, p 4.
Row 4—K 4, p to end. Keeping front edge even, work 1 more st in reversed stockinette st for collar on next row and re­peat every 2nd row 11 times; every 4th row 12 times; at the same time work 6th pat. stripe 20 rows above 5th stripe. Work even with 32 (34-36) sts in stockinette st and 28 sts in reversed stockinette st until armhole is same length as on back, end at armhole edge. Shape shoulder as on back. Con­tinue on 26 sts of collar for 2½ ins.; break off; place on holder.

RIGHT FRONT—With A, cast on 74 (78-82) sts. Work to cor­respond to left front to dec. row, decreasing for underarm edge at end of k rows; 68 (72-76) sts, end with p row.
Dec. row—K 24, k 2 tog., * k 6, k 2 tog.; repeat from * 4 times, finish row; 62 (66-70) sts.
Work 3 rows even, end at front edge.

Buttonhole—K 3, bind off 4 sts, finish row. On next row, cast on 4 sts over buttonhole. Work even until 7½ ins. from lower edge, end with p row.
Inc. row—K 24, inc. 1 st in next st, * k 6, inc. 1 st in next st; repeat from * 4 times, finish row; 68 (72-76) sts. Work 5 rows even, end with p row.

Stripe Pattern—With A, k 24, with B, k to end. P 1 row matching colors. Finish right front to correspond to left, repeating buttonhole every 3 ins., including last buttonhole, until there are 4 buttonholes.

SLEEVES—With A, cast on 56 (58-60) sts. Work stockinette st, increasing 1 st each side every 1 in. 8 (5-2) times; every ¾ in. 12 (16-20) times; 96 (100-104) sts. Work even until 18 ins. from beg. Bind off 8 (9-10) sts at beg. of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 4 times; every 4th row 11 (12-13) times; every 2nd row twice. Bind off 3 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 28 sts.

POCKETS—With A, cast on 36 sts. Work stockinette st, in­creasing 1 st each side of next 4 rows; 44 sts. Work even until 4½ ins. from beg. Bind off. From right side, work 1 row sc around all edges, increasing in 2 upper corners to keep work flat. Make 2.

FINISHING—Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm.

Sew on pockets in line with pattern stripes, about ¼ in. above lower edge. Weave ends of collar tog.; sew to back of neck. From right side, beg. at collar on left front, work 1 row sc around fronts and lower edge of jacket to beg. of collar on right front. From right side, work 1 row sc around collar and lower edge of sleeves. Finish buttonholes. Steam.
