Gold Medal Fingering Yarn (A Jack Frost Product)4 1-oz. Skeins
BACK: With No. 3 Needles cast on 83 sts. Work in garter st for 1 ½ in., then work even in stockinette st until piece measures 8 in. from lower edge. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 3 times. Work even until piece measures 4 ½ in. from underarm. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, then 7 sts at beginning of each of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining sts for back of neck.
POCKET LINING: With No. 3 Needles cast on 16 sts. Work even in stockinette st for 2 ½ in. ending on right side. Place on st-holder.
LEFT FRONT: With No. 3 Needles cast on 48 sts. Work in garter st for 1 in., working the first buttonhole ½ in. from lower edge as follows: K over the first 43 sts, K 2 tog, Y O, K 3, K back, working the Y 0 as a st. Repeat buttonholes every 1 ½ in. to neck edge of cardigan, working last buttonhole in neckband. When piece measures 1 ½ in. from lower edge, work in stockinette st over the first 42 sts, keeping the last 6 sts worked in garter st for buttonhole band. When piece measures 4 in. from lower edge, bind off for pocket opening as follows: K 16, bind off next 16 sts, work across row. On the next row, work over the first 16 sts, P across the 16 sts of pocket lining, P the last 16 sts. Continue working in stockinette st until piece measures 8 in. from lower edge. Keeping front edge even, bind off 6 sts at underarm edge once; decrease 1 st at underarm edge every other row 6 times. Work even until piece measures 3 in. from bound off sts at underarm, ending at neck edge. Work over first 6 sts, place on pin. Bind off next 5 sts, then decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 5 times. Work even until armhole corresponds to back. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 6 sts once, then 7 sts every other row 2 times. Work other side to correspond. Sew shoulder seams.
POCKET BAND: With No. 3 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 16 sts across top of pocket. Work in garter st for 6 rows. Bind off.
Sew to edges of garment. Sew pocket lining to wrong side.
SLEEVES: With No. 3 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 66 sts from end to end of armhole. Work 7 rows even, then decrease 1 st at each end of the next row and every 8th row thereafter to 54 sts. Work even until piece measures 8 in. from underarm. Change to No. 2 Needles decreasing to 41 sts at even intervals across row. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 ½ in. Bind off. Sew underarm and sleeve seams.
NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 81 sts from end to end of neckband, including sts which were placed on pin. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Work last buttonhole in 2nd row of neckband. Bind off.
